The latest on the US dollar to Swedish krona rates
The lowdown on the Swedish krona
Swedish currency had encompassed several forms since the medieval period. The silver standard has been used twice, separated by a copper standard (1625 1745) and paper standard (1746 and 1776). From the 17th century to 1873, Swedish currency was called Riksdaler.
The Swedish krona was first established when the country agreed to join Denmark and Norway in the Scandinavian Monetary Union (SMU) in 1873. For the first time in the currency’s existence, it made use of a gold standard, and pegged itself on par with the other SMU currencies. When the monetary union was disbanded in 1914, Sweden decided to maintain the gold standard.
