Date: 1st August 2008

London – Travelex.co.uk is helping credit crunched travellers make their money go further this half term by guaranteeing the best rate on foreign exchange.

Travelex.co.uk Price Promise ensures that its website offers the best value and commission free foreign currency in the UK. If holidaymakers can find a better deal elsewhere, including the high street, the internet, seaports and airports, Travelex.co.uk will refund the difference.

In real terms, the Price Promise means that families ordering 500 Euros can save nearly £15, just by ordering online at www.travelex.co.uk.

Travelex.co.uk Director, Anthony Hudson says, “Holidaymakers are really going to be feeling the pinch this half term with the likes of increasing fuel prices pushing up the cost of holiday travel and the pound’s poor rate against the Euro. By making the most of our online Price Promise, best rate deals and commission free offers, travellers can help to make sure there money goes that little bit further.”

Travelex.co.uk remains the lowest price in the UK because a team of experts continually research prices at all major foreign exchange services online and on the high street to ensure it guarantees customers the best possible deal. Along with the most competitive exchange rate on all currencies, the Price Promise has no commission or delivery charges or any other hidden costs, making Travelex.co.uk Britain’s leading supplier of foreign currency online.

As Travelex has shops located at every major airport and seaport in the UK, money can be collected at the airport on the day of departure, avoiding the cost and complication of having money delivered. Currency can be ordered up to 60 days in advance as well as within 24 hours of departure. No one else in the UK is able to offer customers such a proposition.

In addition to offering the best rate online, Travelex has also created these top holiday money tips to help travellers ensure they get the most from their holiday cash:

1. Order currency online to get the lowest guaranteed rates - Travelex.co.uk ‘Price Promise’ rate guarantees the lowest foreign currency price in the UK with no commission, or your money back. Once you’ve ordered online, you can then pick up your pre-ordered currency at a Travelex bureau in airports across the country, making it a simple and quick way of exchanging money.

2. Watch out for commission charges – Beware of 0% commission on your currency exchange. Many high street exchange outlets as well as the Post Office boast a 0% commission-free offer, however, poor exchange rates and additional fees that can include handling and/or delivery, can add up to £10 to the transaction.

3. Avoid making numerous exchanges abroad – Every time you change money abroad you will be charged a commission fee. For example, three transactions at your holiday destination could end up costing you up to 15 Euros in commission charges. When using a debit or credit card, the rate of exchange you will receive for the transaction will not be disclosed. This rate will vary depending upon your card issuer.

4. Work out what your money is worth – Have a good understanding of what your money will get you in the country you are heading to. This will mean you’re less likely to get ripped off and you’ll be able to budget more effectively.

5. Limit withdrawals from ATM machines abroad - Withdrawals from ATM machines abroad often carry a charge. These charges vary but average at approx £3.00 per transaction and with holidaymakers making an average of five withdrawals per trip the charges can mount up.

6. Be careful about exchanging currency at hotels – Tourists can fall into the trap of exchanging money in hotels but beware as hotels frequently offer a poor exchange rate and may also charge high commissions for the convenience.

7. Take a mixed wallet – It is best to keep your options open when on holiday so if possible take some cash, travellers cheques and a credit card for emergencies. We would also recommend considering a prepaid card. These are available through a number of different foreign exchange providers including Travelex.co.uk who offer their Cash Passport. Prepaid cards are a cross between a debit card and a travellers’ cheque, they can be loaded euros, sterling or dollars and used like a debit card. Loading in Euros or Dollars fixes the exchange rate at the point of purchase which means holiday-makers are not then vulnerable to unreliable exchange rates while abroad.
